Imade the 28h day of March One thous and eight hundred and eighty nine Between The Undersigned One of the Crown Agents for the Ceclonies of Downing Street Westminster in the County of Middlesex actory for and on behalf of The Government of Hong Kong (hereinafter called the Government of the one part and John Wildey of the Feel Freet Carbole in the County of Cumberland of the other part....

Whereas the suit John Wildey hath been- appointed a Sanitary Overseer of Works Public Works Department of Hong Kong for a period of Three years from the date of his arrival in the Colony Now the said John Wildey doth agree with the said Undersigned that the terms of his engagement as such Sanitary Overseer of Works shall be as follows :-
The said John Wildey will as soon as required proceed to Hong Kong and on his arrival there will be placed under the general orders of the Surveyor General and more directly under the Government Sanitary Engineer and he will be required to supervise sanitary work generally but more par riularly the reconstruction of private house drains in the Chinese tenements of the town - He will also be required to undertake any other dukes of a semilur character which may be entrusted to him by the Surveyor General or Sunctury Engineer.
2. The salary to be paid to the said John Wildey shall be at the rate of One thousand four hundred and sicky dollars ($1,4440) por annum payable in monthly instalments half satury to commence from date of leaving England and full salary from the date of arrival in the Colony with
